A Unique Skill Set

Upon completion of the MSc Management & Innovation programme, you will develop and refine a wide range of business skills demanded by employers worldwide including:

  • Creative Perspective: Practice use of creative thinking, tools and techniques to address innovation challenges in fast developing commercial environments. 
  • Critical Thinking: Build on innovative and creative methods of thinking to investigate and respond to a range of organisational problems, challenges and opportunities.
  • Managerial Vision: Understand management theory and concepts that reflect the dynamism and vibrancy of the global business and management environment.

Admission Requirements

To enter one of the online programmes in the MSc Business & Management Suite, you should possess a good UK honours degree (minimum lower second class) or an equivalent overseas degree recognised by Aston University. All applicants must submit the following:

  • Official academic transcript(s) of your grades to date
  • Maths and English required at a high school level as minimum
  • Two written recommendations, preferably at least one academic referee
  • International students: An official academic transcript, with an official English translation

Language Requirements

International students must meet English language requirements outlined below or an equivalent English language qualification recognised by Aston University. 

  • TOEFL: A minimum score of 93
  • IELTS: An overall minimum score of 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 for each individual IELTS skill

Business Finance (15 credits)

The module aims to introduce the key principles and challenges of financial management decisions, the characteristics of different forms of finance, and the linkages between organisations, the financial markets and financial strategy.

Design Thinking (15 credits)

The module provides a practical introduction to design thinking principles and processes. Through this, and through the application of this new knowledge to case studies and activities, you will develop creative thinking and customer focused practices to help unlock your innovative potential.

Digital Transformation (15 credits)

The module provides a practical introduction to the process of adapting business processes to newer digital platforms and methods. The main purpose of this is to ensure that you are prepared to manage and lead change in an increasingly digitally driven economy.

Operations Management (15 credits)

The module aims to provide an understanding of the role of operations management and how it contributes to business competitiveness.

Project Management (15 credits)

This module will develop your awareness of the range of project management tools and techniques. This will enable you to approach projects more confidently in the future and be better able to draw upon a range of practical tools to enhance your management and leadership.

Entrepreneurial Strategies (15 credits)

This module aims to equip you with the analytical and strategic skills necessary to start a successful small business. It also aims to contribute to an 'entrepreneurial culture' amongst Aston postgraduates and encourage you to consider entrepreneurship as an alternative to employment.

Systems Thinking (15 credits)

The module provides a practical introduction to systems thinking principles and processes. As well as developing new insights you will learn to apply the techniques of systems thinking through application of the tools to case studies and practical activities.

International Business (15 credits)

The aim of this module is to provide a systematic understanding of the fundamental aspects of the global business environment that influence business decisions and behaviour.

Project Management (15 credits)

This module will develop your awareness of the range of project management tools and techniques. This will enable you to approach projects more confidently in the future and be better able to draw upon a range of practical tools to enhance your management and leadership.

Effective Management Consultancy (15 credits)

This module will help you to understand different approaches to consulting projects. You will explore what is good and what is bad consulting practise. It will also prepare you to carry out successful consulting projects within organisations, either as an external consultant or as a line manager given a one-off problem-solving task.

International Marketing Management (15 credits)

The module aims to provide awareness of the range of issues that, within an international context, constitute a holistic approach to the design and management of operations systems taking into considerations their social and environmental impacts.

Strategic Management Accounting (15 credits)

This module aims to elucidate the meaning and role of Strategic Management Accounting (SMA) as part of the modern accountant's capabilities. It aims to give you a good grasp of the varied toolkit that is available under the SMA banner and to put that in a theoretical framework and practical context.
